Pipe Supporting Methodss:

As industry standards, pipes are typically supported using the following hangers:

• Yoke clamp
• Pear bands: Pear shaped clamps with holes for a threaded rod connection
• Nut clips: Clamps with a female connection for threaded rod connections
• Slotted channels and 2-piece clips
• Slotted channel and U bolts
• Saddles

Which pipe hanger to choose?

Typically it depends on :

• the pipe distance from the ceiling or the side wall
• Pipe size
• Number of pipe running together

How to fix the pipe hangers into the ceiling?

Most common hangers fixing methods into concrete and block work are:

• drop-in anchors like Hilti HKD or similar : Drop in anchors fit into the drilled hole and have the female connection to join the threaded rod or bolts. Upon tightening the slotted section will open up blocking the anchor from moving out

• Expansion anchors like Hilti HST or similar : Expansion anchors fit into the drill hole and have a male threaded section for further connection, they are very good choice when fixing a plate into a concrete or block. Simultaneously they can be utilised for hangers. Rod couplers are utilised in case additional length of threaded rods are required to join male threaded sections.

 

 

 

• Chemical Anchors like Hilti RE-500 or similar: Chemical anchor as their name implies are the chemical compounds that are injected to the drilled hole(typically one size bigger than the threaded rod) and will act as fixing anchor after their designated curing time.

What are fire pipe joining methods?

• Roll grooved couplings:

Fire sprinkler pipes bigger than 50mm(DN50, 2”) are mostly connected using pipe couplings joining Roll grooved pipes together

 

• Threading

While for the pipe equal or smaller than DN50 more options typically can be utilised and used in the industry: Mainly they are threaded( in Australia BSP thread) or they can be connected using roll grooved couplings ( less common)
